Recruiting Program Hires Winners and Increases Profits
Challenge
A relatively young professional services firm repeatedly hired employees who would subsequently fail to meet their performance goals. While executives and project managers involved in hiring were experts in their technical areas, but lacked the expertise and vision to interview and hire for their future needs. In their frustration they would hire the first candidate to come along or "a friend of a friend," instead of establishing clear objectives for candidates, projecting future growth, and planning their staffing activity accordingly.
Solution
HR Dallas, LLC was hired to manage the firm’s staffing requirements. HRD attended weekly business status meetings and counseled firm executives on staffing needs based on projected business conditions. To improve the quality of the client’s hiring decision HRD defined success factors for the firm’s employees, and implemented an effective procedure to screen for those factors. HRD also managed the recruiting process by placing employment advertising, screening candidates, coordinating the interview process, performing required pre-employment checks, and extending employment offers. In addition, HRD worked with managers to improve their interviewing skills. HRD interviewed all candidates in conjunction with the firm managers and a few staff members, and made hiring recommendations.
Result
By defining the requirements of a successful employee, implementing a consistent process, and close involvement in candidate selection, HR Dallas has improved the quality of new hires. Employee retention increased, resulting in recruiting cost savings for the client and a better quality of service provided to the client’s clients. Since HRD manages the recruiting process, firm managers are able to spend more time developing the business and working with clients. In addition, HRD has assisted in forecasting staffing requirements to enable the firm to successfully meet their client’s needs.
